Ear Wax Removal, Done Properly

Every appointment begins with an examination. The method is chosen to suit your ears, not the other way round.

Microsuction

A low-pressure suction device lifts wax out of the ear canal while the clinician watches directly through magnification. Because no water enters the ear, it is quick, tidy and generally the preferred method for anyone with a history of ear problems.

Suitable for perforated eardrums and previous ear surgery
No water, no mess, and usually no need to soften wax for days beforehand

Water Irrigation

Body-temperature water is directed along the ear canal wall at a controlled pressure, floating stubborn wax out from behind. Modern irrigators are a long way from the old metal syringes — the pressure is regulated and the sensation is mild.

Effective on large, softened or deeply seated wax
Often combined with microsuction in the same appointment
Softening drops for a few days beforehand give the best result

Ear Health Check

Included with every appointment. Both ears are examined before any treatment begins, and if wax is not the cause of your symptoms you will be told so — and pointed towards the right help instead.

Common Questions

Does it hurt?

No. Most people describe microsuction as a slightly noisy but painless sensation, and irrigation as warm and mildly odd. If anything is uncomfortable, tell us and we stop.
How long does an appointment take?

Allow around 30 minutes. Straightforward wax often clears in less; heavily impacted ears take longer, and the fee does not change either way.
Do I need to use drops beforehand?

It helps. Olive oil drops for three to five days before your appointment soften the wax and make removal quicker, particularly if irrigation is needed. It is not essential for microsuction.
What happens during a home visit?

All equipment comes with us. We need a chair with good access on both sides and a nearby plug socket — nothing else. The whole visit is self-contained and leaves no mess behind.
Can you treat me if I have a perforated eardrum or grommets?

Usually yes, using microsuction rather than irrigation. Tell us when you book so the right approach is planned, and the examination will confirm it on the day.
How often should ears be cleared?

Only when symptoms return. Ears are self-cleaning for most people; hearing aid users and those prone to build-up may need attention every six to twelve months.
What if the wax cannot be removed?

Occasionally wax is too hard to remove safely in one visit. You will be given a softening plan and advice on next steps rather than having the ear pushed further.
When are appointments available?

Appointments run from 10am to 7pm. Availability varies by area, so call or email and we will find the next slot that works for you.
